What is the most trying experience that ever happend to you?
"Probably when we lived at the ranch and an incident occurred between our children and Frank Stradling's children. They were not allowed to play with our children, nor were they allowed to go to Primary if I was their teacher. This finally caused me to have a nervous break down and I had to go to Phoenix to a doctor for shock treatments. However, we soon moved from the ranch to town and we became better friends after many years. This past Christmas, Floyd L Stradling gave us a nice Christmas gift, this pen being one of the things."

Life History -- Secret to Happiness -- Grandma Anna
Written Wednesday, February 20, 2008
What is your personal secret for happiness?
"I don't know that it is a personal secret. When my children are happy, I am happy. When I prepare for and go to church, I am happy. When the twins, Michael and Marcus, write to us while they are on their missions, I am happy. I am happy they wanted to go on a mission and they are so full of the spirit. I am happy to see the first snow of the year and to see our garden produce food. I am happy when our family gets together at reunions or other things. I am happy when I am doing things for others, especially my family members. I am happy when a new baby comes to our family. We had 2 in 2007, and this year Suzanne is expecting twins, so that makes me happy. She is such a good little mother. Not little body, but kind of small built."

Describe things you enjoy doing today that you enjoyed as a child.
"I have always loved to sew, crochet, knit, and embroidery. The things I do now are much more complicated, of course, now than back years ago."

Life Story -- Courting -- Grandma Anna
Written Monday, February 18th, 2008
Tell a courtship story about your parents. How did they meet?
"My mother was born in St. Johns to a very active church family. My Dad came with his mother and sister and brothers to St Johns from Spencer, West Virginia. They had joined the church there. One of the St Johns missionaries taught them the gospel and suggested they move to St Johns where my dad could work at Whitings Saw Mill to earn enough for lumber to make his mother and family a house, which he did. Earnest Whiting was the missionary from St. Johns.
"I imagine they met at church. Whitings wanted him to go with their daughter, Minnie, but he only had eyes for my beautiful mother. She was quiet and very reserved. Her family didn't want her to go with him, but she would sneak out the window and they would visit in the backyard.. Then she went back in the window, very quietly, of course. I don't know how long they courted because I don't know when they moved to St. Johns. They were married August 17, 1917."

Written Saturday, February 16, 2008
Describe a woman you admire. What could you do to be more like her?
"First is my mother. She was so kind and gentle spoken. She did a lot to help others, especially with her beautiful seamstress ability, and the gentle way she took care of all her children. I know she had already make a place in the Celestial Kingdom before she passed away. I kno9w her election was made sure because she was always wonderful. Also there were and are others I felt were special. Mable Shumway, Lavelle Despain, Rosemary Anderson, Sue Keezer and I know there are others."

Life Story -- When I Grow Up -- Grandma Anna
Written Friday, February 15, 2008
What did you want to be when you grew up? What did you grow up to be?

I wanted to be a movie star. They always seemed so beautiful. Then I learned beauty wasn't everything. I wanted to be an ice skater like Sonja Henie, but couldn't do that. I didn't have money to buy skates and besides that I never was very graceful so that was out.
I couldn't go to a vocational school or college so I went to work at the Telephone Company in Tucson, and I was good at that but became ill and had to go back home. If I hadn't I would have never met Bill so I'm happy - Very thankful I came home.
After our children were all in school I worked at the court house first for LaVere Connolly in the treasurer office then transferred to the assessors office and worked for Mr. Ben Slade. After he passed away, Arlo Lee was the Assessor. When he retired I became the Assessor for 20 years, then retired. I was in the assessor's office a total of 32 years. I have since then served in the Concho Branch with Bill for 12 years and 10 months at the present time. I told the Stake President, Eric Broadbent I wanted to serve a mission and he commented, "Where do you think you have been all these years?" As I have been serving the Lord.
